Caries treatment and aesthetic fillings — the foundation of a healthy smile
Conservative dentistry is the foundation of caring for your teeth — early detection and treatment of caries and the restoration of damaged teeth with aesthetic fillings. This is most often where the journey to a healthy, beautiful smile begins.
At the Mikrostomart clinic in Opole we treat precisely — often using magnification and a laser — and aesthetically, matching materials to the colour and structure of your teeth. Our goal is to preserve as much healthy tooth tissue as possible (hence “conservative”).
Caries treatment
The earlier we detect caries, the less invasive the treatment. During regular check-ups we catch changes at an early stage and remove only the diseased tissue, sparing the healthy part. We restore the cavity with a tight seal, returning the tooth to full function and a natural appearance. In advanced cases, when caries reaches the pulp, root canal treatment under a microscope may be necessary.
Aesthetic fillings (composite)
We use modern composite fillings that match the colour and translucency of a natural tooth — they are practically invisible. The material is bonded adhesively to the tooth tissue, which helps preserve healthy enamel. The result is durable, aesthetic and fully functional — including in the front teeth.
Drill-free treatment — laser and ICON
Some cavities, especially early ones, can be treated without classic drilling. The erbium laser (Er:YAG) prepares the tissue without contact, and the ICON method (resin infiltration) can stop early caries without damaging the enamel. These are comfortable solutions — without vibration and often without anaesthesia.
Discover laser dentistry →Replacing old amalgam fillings
Over time, old “silver” amalgam fillings lose their seal, discolour the tooth and can become a source of secondary caries beneath the filling. We replace them with aesthetic, well-sealed composite fillings — safely, with proper isolation of the working field (rubber dam). It is a matter of both aesthetics and the tooth's health.
Non-carious lesions (abrasion, erosion, abfraction)
Not every defect is caries. Tooth wear (abrasion — e.g. from over-vigorous brushing), enamel erosion (from dietary acids or reflux) or abfraction (cervical lesions from occlusal overload, often with bruxism) require a different approach. We diagnose the cause, restore the defect and advise how to prevent further damage to your teeth.
Why choose us
We carry out conservative treatment precisely — using magnification (microscope / loupes) and a laser, which lets us spare healthy tissue and achieve durable, aesthetic results. We focus on minimal invasiveness and honest diagnostics: we treat what genuinely needs treating, and we always explain why.
Frequently asked questions
Does caries treatment hurt?
Modern treatment is comfortable. We use anaesthesia (including the computer-controlled The Wand), and many early cavities are treated with a laser — without a drill and often without anaesthesia.
Will the filling be visible?
No. We match composite fillings to the colour and translucency of your tooth — they are practically invisible, including in the front teeth.
Is it worth replacing old amalgam fillings?
If they have lost their seal, discolour the tooth or secondary caries appears beneath them — yes. We replace them with aesthetic composites, safely and with good isolation of the working field.
I have defects near the gums even though I care for my teeth — what is this?
These are often non-carious lesions (abfraction / abrasion / erosion) — from occlusal overload, over-vigorous brushing or acids. They require different treatment than caries; first we establish the cause.
How long will a composite filling last?
With good hygiene and regular check-ups, modern composites last many years. Longevity depends on the size of the cavity, its location and habits (e.g. bruxism).
Does every cavity have to be drilled?
No. Early caries can be stopped with the ICON method (without drilling), and many cavities are prepared with a laser. We decide on the method after assessing the specific case.
